More animal welfare in the Vienna Woods

The Animal Welfare Initiative (ITW) is expanding its market presence in the catering sector. Wienerwald, the oldest system restaurant in Germany, is joining the Animal Welfare Initiative as part of its brand relaunch. This is the second catering company to join the Animal Welfare Initiative, underlining the growing importance of animal welfare in the catering industry.

“We are pleased to be able to win Wienerwald, a truly traditional brand for ITW and its commitment to animal welfare. “Wienerwald shows: the concept of the Animal Welfare Initiative is absolutely feasible for the catering industry,” states Robert Römer, Managing Director of ITW. “There is now no longer any way for the industry to duck. Anyone who wants to act responsibly in large-scale catering can do so together with ITW. We are here and we are ready.”

“For us, sustainability and animal welfare are a cornerstone of our brand, which we have considered from the very beginning,” says Thies Borch-Madsen, Managing Director of Wienerwald. “By participating in the Animal Welfare Initiative, we would like to set an example and show that animal welfare is in modern gastronomy concepts. For us, Vienna Woods is simply unimaginable without a focus on animal welfare. "

With almost 70 years of experience, Wienerwald is the oldest system restaurant in Germany. Now the traditional company is repositioning itself with a comprehensive relaunch. Participation in the animal welfare initiative plays a key role in the new concept. In the future, Wienerwald will only offer grilled chicken from farmers who keep their animals at least according to the criteria of the Animal Welfare Initiative. With the collaboration, the brand preserves its traditional values and transfers them to the needs of a modern and young target group.

About Vienna Woods
With its concept, Wienerwald stands for special moments in community and the typical delicious grilled chicken. In addition to the well-known hearty dishes, the menu also includes a wide range of light and vegetarian/vegan dishes. The drinks range from wine and beer to soft drinks and homemade lemonade.

With the brand relaunch, the traditional brand is being adapted to the modern needs of consumers. In addition to the cooperation with the Animal Welfare Initiative, this is reflected in the modern and casual service, which is also clear in the brand's central claim: “Wienerwald - We serve you a good time.”

About the Initiative animal welfare
With the Tierwohl (ITW) initiative launched in 2015, the partners from agriculture, the meat industry, food retail and gastronomy commit themselves to their joint responsibility for animal husbandry, animal health and animal welfare in livestock husbandry. The animal welfare initiative supports farmers in implementing measures for the welfare of their livestock that go beyond the legal standards. The implementation of these measures is monitored across the board by the Animal Welfare Initiative. The Animal Welfare Initiative's product seal only identifies products that come from animals from participating companies in the Animal Welfare Initiative. The animal welfare initiative is gradually establishing more animal welfare on a broad basis and is continuously being further developed in the process.
