Commitment to German agriculture

Kaufland supports German agriculture and stands for fair and reliable cooperation with its partner suppliers and farmers. As part of the Green Week in Berlin, the company is not only showing its holistic commitment to sustainability, but is also once again highlighting its commitment to German agriculture in a special way and is clearly committed to domestic production.

“The partnership-based collaboration with German farmers is a fundamental part of our daily work. Only together with them can we make our supply chains more sustainable and transparent in order to offer our customers a wide range of high-quality food,” says Andreas Schopper, purchasing management member at Kaufland. “As a food retailer, we also know our importance for German agriculture – and in particular the responsibility we bear in this regard. It is important to us to emphasize: We do not want to pay lip service, but rather create facts and work together to promote sustainable improvements for German agriculture.”

Kaufland shows its long-term commitment to German agriculture with various measures:

Joining the Modern Agriculture Forum
On the occasion of Green Week, Kaufland becomes a member of the Modern Agriculture Forum, thereby sending a clear signal that it will intensify and strategically anchor its commitment to German agriculture in the long term. Kaufland consciously focuses on exchange and dialogue with agriculture, which is intensified as part of membership. There has been close cooperation with the Modern Agriculture Forum for several years. This association of associations, organizations and companies in the agricultural sector has set itself the goal of providing information about modern agriculture and strengthening the dialogue between society and agriculture.

Investing in the future: leading the way in regenerative agriculture
In order to build more environmentally friendly supply chains and support farmers in switching to regenerative practices, Kaufland is the first food retailer to work with the AgriTech company Klim. By using the Klim platform, emissions on farms are made measurable and measures to reduce greenhouse gases are promoted. By implementing regenerative agricultural methods, Kaufland not only wants to improve soil health, but also ensure the future viability of German agriculture. The company is taking a pioneering role in the food retail sector when it comes to promoting regenerative agriculture.

Reliable partnership in all areas of agriculture
As a food retailer, Kaufland offers a large range of products made in Germany. For example, the company has converted the entire milk range of its own brands to German origin. It also offers over 200 types of fruit and vegetables that are produced in Germany. Kaufland also relies on German origins when it comes to meat: all of the fresh pork and poultry meat of farming method level 2 also comes from German origin, as do all of the meat and sausage products from its own brand K-WertSchätze.

In addition, Kaufland is committed to more animal welfare-friendly livestock farming as a founding member of the Animal Welfare Initiative and with its quality meat program “K-Respekt fürs Tier”. Kaufland not only offers its contract farmers fair remuneration for animal welfare-friendly farming, but also long-term purchase guarantees and qualitative growth through partnership with a high-performance and stable company.

In addition to these ranges, selected products, for example from the areas of baked goods, canned goods and salty snacks, are also made primarily from ingredients of German origin. The offer will be gradually expanded. All of these products are marked with the “Quality from Germany” seal. This allows customers to see the entire variety of products from German agricultural production, make a conscious decision to purchase them and thus make an important contribution to the preservation of German agriculture. To ensure greater transparency and clarity in the food retail sector, Kaufland is also involved in the “Central Coordination of Trade and Agriculture” and is committed to the future promotion of the German origin mark, which is uniform across all retailers, on products and on shelf labels.
