Butcher shops grew again in the spring

Frankfurt am Main, September 25, 2017. In the second quarter of this year, artisan butchers in Germany once again posted pleasing figures. According to the Federal Statistical Office, industry sales increased by 7,1 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. With a price increase rate of 1,7 percent for meat and meat products over the same period, this is satisfactory growth. The number of employees remained almost stable, compared to the second quarter of 2016 there was a decrease of only 0,3 percent.

This development is to be seen against the background of a declining number of independent master craftsmen and confirms the continuing trend towards larger and more efficient companies. In the butcher trade, the second quarter is usually stronger than the beginning of the year. A warm spring with an early start to the barbecue season can stimulate business considerably. However, the strongest sales are still achieved during the Christmas business in the fourth quarter.
