National performance competition of young butchers 2017

Frankfurt am Main, November 13, 2017. At the beginning of next week, on November 20 and 21, 2017, the best young people from the butcher and butcher shop salesperson training courses will compete in the federal performance competition in the premises of the Rübekamp school center in Bremen of the butcher youth against each other.

At the national performance competition for young butchers, the young candidates are asked to do everything they have acquired during their three-year apprenticeship in the butcher's trade: dexterity, endurance and strength, but above all strong nerves and the ability to concentrate. Because all 18 disciplines of the two-day competition are not only technically demanding, but also have to be completed within a tight time limit.

For the butchers, this includes, for example, cutting up a leg of beef, making a cold cut roulade, but also preparing a grill plate that is as appetizing as possible. The butcher shop saleswomen will not only conjure up ready-to-cook products, gift baskets and filigree canapés, they also have to prove themselves in the consultation and in the planning of a festive event.

However, the participants from all over Germany are not only optimally prepared, they are already the young elite of the butcher's trade. The best junior staff from the butcher and butcher shop salesperson training courses have already prevailed against a selected field of applicants at chamber and then state level. 

Nevertheless, the candidates in Bremen will have to do their best, after all, the jury can only proclaim a national winner in the end. And this can sometimes – contrary to the unjustly widespread gender stereotype – be a young female butcher and a young butcher shop salesman.
