Coronavirus: Food transmission unlikely

The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has updated the frequently asked questions about the corona virus on its homepage. In the catalog of answers there, BfR addresses the question of whether the virus is also transmitted via food and objects:

There are currently no cases in which it has been proven that people have become infected with the novel coronavirus by other means, such as by eating contaminated food or by contacting contaminated objects. There are no reports of food infections or contact with dry surfaces for other corona viruses either. However, transmission over surfaces that were previously contaminated with viruses is conceivable due to smear infections. However, due to the relatively low stability of corona viruses in the environment, this is only likely to occur shortly after contamination.
