Arterial function improved cocoa ingredients and maintain vascular aging

Certain phytonutrients in cocoa, the flavanols, can improve the functions (elasticity?) Of the arterial system in young and older people and counteract age-related changes in the blood vessels. This is the result of a current study that a team from the University Hospital Düsseldorf carried out together with colleagues from the USA and Great Britain and presented at the 80th annual conference of the German Cardiac Society (DGK) in Mannheim. The study was carried out as part of the EU-funded FLAVIOLA research consortium.

22 young men older (under 35 years) and 20 subjects between 50 and 80 years received two weeks twice daily either a Kakaoflavonol-rich (450 mg) or a Kakaoflavonol-drink.

After two weeks of daily intake of 900 mg Kakaoflavonolen the vessels were significantly expanded by improving the function of the inner vessel wall in young and elderly subjects, reported in Mannheim PD Dr. Christian hot and Dr. Roberto Sansone (Dusseldorf). In both age groups, the elasticity of the arteries improved after the daily consumption of Kakaoflavonole (measured in the form of pulse wave velocity) and diastolic blood pressure decreased. Only in the older subjects participated also the peripheral and central systolic blood pressure from, as well as the augmentation index, another measure of vascular elasticity.

Note TP:

For all the optimism, the study had just 45 participants, all mMänner and went over 2 weeks. So Feels there were more observers than Investigated. Also nothing about is "double blind" to read the press release.
