New numbers for food waste

Almost 12 millions of tonnes of food go into trash every year in Germany, or around 75 kilograms per inhabitant. This was the result of the study published in September 2019 "Food Waste in Germany - Baseline 2015", which was carried out by the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (TI) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). The so-called "BMEL Baseline 2015" serves as the basis for the National Strategy for reducing food waste.
