Beef Report 2009 published by the "agri benchmark" network of experts

Economic analysis of different production systems of beef production

The annual Beef Report has been published and shows the entire spectrum of the international agri-economics network "agri benchmark": The operating data of more than 80 typical companies from 24 countries are updated and evaluated in the current report.

The report, which is comprehensive on 100 pages, provides detailed information on the prevailing production systems, production costs and profitability of suckler cow husbandry and cattle fattening, as well as a time series analysis of identical holdings and the discussion of factors influencing price and cost developments over the past four years.

A new feature of the Beef Report 2009 are the so-called "Country Pages", which present developments in the beef sector and comprehensive time series on cattle numbers, production, trade and prices for beef and livestock in 25 countries in a comparable format.

In addition to the standard analyzes of suckler cow husbandry and cattle fattening, the farm branches are brought together and analyzed for 'integrated' farms (that practice suckler cow husbandry and cattle fattening at the same time) and in 'combined' farms. The latter allows a suckler cow farm in one country to be merged with a cattle fattening farm in another country. Examples are Austria-Italy, Canada-USA and Hungary-Spain.

Further results include an analysis of the French country market, the further development of cattle fattening in Germany under the changed framework conditions and the development of company networks in Spain, Sweden and South Africa.

The Beef Report 2009, written in English, is available on the agri benchmark homepage [ www.agribenchmark.org ] and costs 25 euros.
