Quick and healthy eating - a contradiction?

The second study of the co-op initiative "Ess-Trends in Focus" is present

New findings from the study series "Ess-Trends in Focus" show that rapidly cooked while healthy food for the Swiss population is important. 42% of respondents, however, are of the opinion that fast and healthy food does not match. For the vast majority of respondents, it is crucial that, especially the dinner at home is fast and healthy. Quick refers primarily to the preparation time and less to the time required for the food.

With the initiative "Ess-Trends in Focus" examines Coop eating habits and awareness of the Swiss population. The results of the first co-study "Ess-Trends in Focus" showed in February 09 that are interested 65% of the Swiss population eat fast and healthy for the subject. The second poll of the series of studies, the issue under the microscope, what is meant by quickly and eat healthy.

Salad is considered the #1 “quick and healthy meal”.

If you ask the Swiss population what they mean by fast and healthy food, the spontaneous answer most often is “salad”. In addition, "fruits" and "vegetables" are often mentioned. This is surprising against the background of the first Coop survey “Focus on eating trends”: those surveyed stated that they did not have the time to comply with the “5 a day” recommendation (5 portions of fruit and vegetables).

In fourth place - rather surprisingly - meat and grilled dishes are mentioned as examples of quick and healthy meals.

42% of those surveyed believe that fast and healthy food do not go together. However, 69% of respondents recognize that a meal can be quick and healthy at the same time.

Little time for preparation

90% of the Swiss population state that they always or often eat healthily. The 28% of respondents who state that they often or always eat unhealthily are mainly men and people under the age of 50. The reason why people eat quickly (whether healthy or unhealthy) is primarily due to the lack of time to prepare the meal rather than the lack of time to eat.

Dinner should be prepared quickly and healthy

76% of the Swiss population understand “quick and healthy” to mean a meal that can be prepared quickly. It is particularly important to the Swiss population that food at home is quick and healthy. This is especially true for dinner. Practically all respondents eat their evening meal at home during the week, and around half eat lunch. The study confirms that about a quarter of the Swiss population does not eat breakfast.
