Is Christmas out?

The Schlecker Christmas Study 2011

Silent Night Holy Night? nothing there Christmas means stress for every third German! Even if the majority of Germans like Christmas, every 3th German doesn't care about Christmas! Another five percent of Germans even state clearly that they do not like the festival of love. These are the results of a current study that Schlecker carried out in cooperation with TNS Infratest.

Although the majority of Germans are still looking forward to the traditional Christian festival, there are more people who don't like Christmas in Germany than the advocates dare to suspect: a full 20 percent of Germans see nothing positive about Christmas or the traditions that go with it. For only twelve percent of the women surveyed and six percent of the men surveyed, baking Christmas cookies is one of the most important Christmas joys.

Church, no thanks! Christmas pounds, oh god!

When it comes to going to church, things are also looking bleak. More than half of Germans have already decided not to attend the church service on Christmas Eve, which used to be obligatory. The Germans would also like to avoid visiting relatives. A full 30 percent find this annoying. The extra pounds are another stress factor around the festival. Weight gain over the days means stress for every third woman, but also for every fourth man.

At least when buying gifts, Germans try to keep the stress as low as possible. 15 percent of those surveyed discovered a very special strategy for avoiding stress: They don't even buy any gifts. On the other hand, many do not get gifts at the last moment (58 percent) and simply order them online (52 percent). Online shopping is particularly popular with 16-29 year olds, around two thirds of whom buy online. The selection of the gifts is not particularly difficult. A look at the list of the most popular gifts shows that it doesn't always have to be unusual to please: a book (50 percent) or a great scent (37 percent) for her and technology products (33 percent) for him.

It gets "cold" at Christmas

The Germans seem to be a rather boring people when it comes to giving gifts. But you could really make sure that it gets a little hotter despite the icy season - at least under the sheets. Not in Germany! Only four percent want erotic accessories from their partner for the party, and they are just as reluctant to give them as gifts. It seems as if there are not only Christmas but also sex muffles in Germany - and that for the festival of love!

To study

Christmas is an important and interesting topic for Schlecker. With a large selection of Christmas items, the extensive online range and a huge range of branded fragrances at sensational prices, Schlecker wants to make it easier for its customers to find the perfect gift. Against this background, Schlecker wanted to know what Germans think of "Christmas". Together with the well-known market and opinion research institute TNS Infratest, the drugstore discounter carried out a study on the subject of Christmas. 1.051 people between the ages of 16 and 69 were interviewed. Interesting insights were gained from the anonymous online survey.
