First test results negative for Tönnies

Rheda-Wiedenbrück - After the publication of the first 784 samples (as of May 13.5, 14:00 p.m.) from the areas with the highest risk from the Tönnies site in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, zero of these tested positive. The Gütersloh district announced this today. So far, more than 2100 samples have been taken by Tönnies employees, the evaluation takes place in the OWL Test Center, which has provided 500 sample analyzes daily. Further sampling will follow in the coming days.

"The results confirm that we do not have a large COVID -19 location like in other counties," says Dr. Gereon Schulze Althoff, head of the pandemic team at Tönnies. "Even after this interim result, we are continuing our strategy to minimize risk. We make decisions based on the situation and build on this knowledge when positive test results are received. ”

"With our 14-point plan, which has been handed over to the authorities, we are expanding our requirements in the areas of living, transport and work." The core element of the hygiene concept is the self-responsible continuation of the sampling after the status has been recorded by the official tests. For this, Tönnies relies on a risk-based test concept in its own test center. "With the very extensive official tests that have now started, we are given a current status. We can build on this and implement our strategy of interrupting the infection chain even better, ”says Dr. Schulze Althoff the situation. For the coming weeks and months, in which the pandemic situation continues, the company will continue the tests in its own test center.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the company's work has focused on two things: protecting employees and ensuring security of supply with meat and sausages. The company has been analyzing and evaluating the measures in the pandemic crisis team since February. This work will continue in the following weeks, now with the rules of the hygiene concept being tightened again.

"The political statements of the past few days are surprising to me, after all, we abide by the law and the law, are pioneers when it comes to housing and create supra-legal standards," says Clemens Tönnies. "We offer to share our experiences at a round table with the Ministers of Labor Karl-Josef Laumann and Hubertus Heil, there is a need for a constructive dialogue."

In this context, Tönnies demands that the federal government regulate and audit apartments. “We need reliable standards that are checked and audited. This applies across industries to the meat industry, as well as to construction, mechanical engineering, the service sector or online mail order. ”

The Tönnies hygiene concept in detail:

  1. Establishment of a Tönnies test center for PCR tests on COVID-19.
  2. Voluntary PCR testing of contact persons in categories 1 and 2, if not already carried out by the authorities.
  3. PCR testing of all employees who previously lived in residential units> 10 people.
  4. PCR testing of all employees who have not been in the company for> 96 hours.
  5. PCR testing in residential and visiting environments for future early warning messages from the health authorities.
  6. PCR testing of all fever positives from daily temperature measurements with a thermal scanner at the production inputs.
  7. Quarantine all new employees until submission of a negative result.
  8. Provision of stand-by quarantine living space for infected people.
  9. Weekly antibody screening of a representative sample in the Tönnies laboratory to determine a potential dark figure.
  10. Reduction of the residential unit to a maximum of 10 people per residential unit. No collective accommodation like former barracks.
  11. Urgent request to minimize the number of external visits for all employees.
  12. Intensification of housing advice by the Tönnies integration officer.
  13. Reduction of the transport density in cars to a maximum of 5 passengers / vehicle with a mouthguard requirement.
  14. Establishment of a cooperative early warning system with the district health offices. In the case of Covid-positive information from service providers, this also applies if a contact person determination at the workplace is not necessary.
