Bizerba increases sales and is well equipped for 2020

Bizerba, one of the leading providers of hardware and software solutions in the field of weighing, cutting and labeling technology, generated sales of 2019 million euros worldwide in the 701 financial year. The family business from Balingen, Baden-Württemberg, was able to increase sales by 4% compared to the same period last year.

Sales in the past financial year are traditionally based on a strong domestic market. With a 30% share of sales, Germany is still the most important market for Bizerba. 47% of sales came from other European countries, which increased again compared to 2018. At 21%, the Americas region is staying at a stable level.

The distribution of sales across the business areas remained stable in 2019. Significant growth was achieved in the Industry, Service and Labels & Consumables business areas. The number of employees rose to 4.171, of whom 2.192 work outside of Germany.

"The positive sales development in 2019 confirms our strategy and our approach," says Andreas Kraut, CEO and shareholder of Bizerba. “We will build on this with new hardware and software solutions and offer our customers innovative approaches that will revolutionize industries.”

The drivers of success are the core areas of weighing, cutting and labeling technology. However, the Business Services division and the company's various financing offers also made an important contribution. Bizerba is strengthening its locations with investments of 19,6 million euros.

Investing in the future
The construction of the new, ultra-modern logistics center for spare parts logistics at the main and service location in Balingen began in 2019 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. The logistics center includes a pallet warehouse and a small parts warehouse with semi-automatic picking. It is designed for around 45 employees and around 1.000 parcels per day.

In addition, the first areas at the Balingen site were converted into modern office worlds based on the latest findings, which optimally support the work of the employees. The expansion of other areas will continue in 2020.

In addition to investing in the locations, Bizerba is also investing heavily in digitization. Extensions and modernizations of the IT infrastructure as well as new software tools create an optimal basis for further digitization at Bizerba. The software becomes the central element of Bizerba's solutions and is being further expanded as one of the most important business areas. Investments were also made in modern infrastructure in the Labels & Consumables business area. The coaters newly acquired in 2019 are able to produce optimal linerless labels for the new Bizerba solutions.

2020 started at previous year's level
The sales development in the first quarter of 2020 is at the previous year's level. “A few years ago, Bizerba started developing innovative solutions at an early stage. The current situation gives the development a special boost, so that remote service, for example, is currently in demand from many customers," says Andreas Kraut.

New solutions for the supermarket
With Supersmart powered by Bizerba, an innovative solution for the supermarket is new to the portfolio. The system simplifies shopping enormously and also helps supermarkets to comply with the new hygiene regulations. The solution was created in cooperation with the Israeli startup Supersmart and is distributed worldwide by Bizerba. The first solutions have already been installed in Turkey and the Czech Republic.

The new K2020 generation of shop scales is already in the starting blocks for 3. Highly networkable, with an innovative multi-touch display for easy operation and a modular design, these retail scales are ideal for use in modern supermarkets. With the new packaging machines specially developed for the retail sector, large supermarkets can pack, weigh and label small quantities in just one step - ideal for connecting an online shop, for example.

Bigger labels with more information with less waste
With the GLM-Ievo F-Wrap, Bizerba will be offering a new price labeler for the food industry from 2020. In conjunction with the "GlueFreeZone" linerless labels, this marker can be used to print more information about the product while at the same time reducing waste, since the linerless labels do not require the backing paper - the so-called liner. By using the "GlueFreeZone" linerless labels, the knives in the device are protected, there is less sticking and therefore less downtime.
