6.204 Corona Tests Performed - Three Positive Test Results

Rheda-Wiedenbrück – The corona tests by the Gütersloh district health department near Tönnies in Rheda-Wiedenbrück continued on Friday. According to the authorities, 18 employees of the company were tested by Friday, 6.204 p.m. The series of tests will continue in the coming days. 3.252 samples have already been evaluated. The health department announced on Friday that three employees had tested positive for COVID-19. Since the result is weakly positive for two of the three people, another test is carried out here.

The health authorities immediately informed the affected employees. All three work in the area of convenience production, a downstream area at Tönnies. They were informed about the infection, separated and housed in quarantine apartments provided by the company. Tönnies also informed the people who may have been in contact with each other in the apartment, during transport to work and at the workplace. Category 1 contacts have been quarantined at home.

The individual who tested weakly positive was also informed, separated and sent to quarantine. Here, too, contact person management was implemented immediately.

“Our goal is for all employees to remain as healthy as possible. The priority now is to quickly interrupt the chain of infection, so we implemented the necessary measures immediately today," says Dr. Gereon Schulze Althoff, head of the pandemic team. “Of course, there is an increased risk of infection for the two employees who live in a house unit. Therefore, all people in this unit, as well as the direct contacts at work and during transport, are now going into quarantine.”

After the four previously reported COVID-19 cases in the group of companies, the employees who tested positive today are the first in the production area in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. “As we explained at the beginning of the test, we are happy about the intensive testing of our employees. After all, we can quickly interrupt a possible chain of infection. This confirms the authority's decision not only to test the slaughtering and cutting operations as initially planned, but also to plan further production areas.

"We expected to get positive results from a full screening," confirms company spokesman Dr. André Vielstädte the findings. "An absolute zero rate is almost impossible given the large number of tests carried out in this pandemic situation"

Company organizes care for employees
“The first thing we do now is take care of the employees. Our integration officer ensures the supply, shops and supports the employees in quarantine," says Vielstädte, describing the company's efforts. “We have to continue to be very vigilant, after all, further individual positive cases cannot be ruled out. "That's why we have already announced that we will continue the one-time test series instructed by the state for all employees voluntarily and at our own expense," emphasizes the company spokesman. "After the test center at the Sögel site has started operations, work will also start in Rheda on Monday."

In the meantime, the tests have also been continued at other locations of the group of companies. At the location in Weißenfels (Saxony-Anhalt), the tests started on Thursday and will be completed on Friday. The tests also started on Thursday at the locations in Satrup and Böklund (Schleswig-Holstein). Of 600 tests carried out, 240 are evaluated here. These are all negative. At the location in Legden (North Rhine-Westphalia), the tests were already completed on Wednesday. Results are not yet available here.
