Green light for resumption of operations in Sögel

The green light for the continued operation of the Weidemark site in Sögel: After intensive and good discussions with the district of Emsland, the authority approved the submitted hygiene concept on Sunday. This means that work at the site can be resumed on Monday.

"The concept presented to us for the reopening of the company is viable from an infectious point of view. In this respect, work can start again under the changed framework conditions, albeit to a limited extent," says District Administrator Marc-André Burgdorf. The core idea of the concept is the work quarantine of employees in the areas of disassembly, packaging, order picking and shipping. "For the time being, these employees are only allowed to move between their place of residence and their place of work," explains Weidemark Managing Director Christopher Rengstorf.

Operations in the areas of administration, technology and slaughter started on Monday. The core areas of production will follow today, Tuesday, with a reduced number of employees. In the area of disassembly, for example, only around a third of the usual forces are used. The already high test density of the employees remains. For the time being, employees in work quarantine will continue to be tested daily, both with the PCR test and the antigen test, in which the result is known after just 15 minutes. The employee may only enter production if this is negative. "We are convinced that with the agreed measures, this rapid restart can take place from an infectiological point of view," explains Johanna Sievering, head of the district's health department.

Most recently, the number of positive tests among the workforce at Weidemark had fallen significantly. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the positive findings were in the low single digits. This trend is now to be continued with the new concept. “We would like to thank the district for the constructive discussions over the past few days. We're glad we found this solution," emphasizes Christopher Rengstorf.
