Bizerba and Metrilus develop a joint logistics system
Bizerba, the innovation-driven provider of hardware and software solutions in the field of weighing, cutting and labeling technology, and Metrilus, the provider of 3D camera-based solutions for master data collection and freight measurement, are bringing a joint volume measurement system onto the market. In this, Bizerba and Metrilus combine their leading weighing and computer vision expertise into a holistic complete solution and in this way optimize logistics and intralogistics processes for companies in a wide variety of industries. Metrilus, headquartered in Erlangen, focuses with its "MetriXFreight" product portfolio on the cost-effective and fast provision of high-quality logistical data. Metrilus' expertise is based on over ten years of product development expertise in real-time 3D applications - for example in retail, medical technology or the automotive industry. The company is a proven expert in the use of computer vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). Metrilus' customer base includes world-leading logistics service providers as well as medium-sized logistics and industrial companies.
In connection with the market-leading weighing solutions from Bizerba, the two providers create a holistic, fully integrated complete system for volume and weight measurement. This can be used to measure goods a few centimeters in size and complex picked pallets. The new product combination can be used in various application scenarios: It optimizes the collection of master data in incoming goods and the storage and control processes of containers in intralogistics in outgoing goods. In addition, logistics service providers and forwarding agents benefit from the very fast freight measurement of entire pallets in the cross-docking area.
Individual, flexible and efficient
The static measuring systems can be completely adapted to individual customer requirements. Depending on the area of application, various standard components such as weighing terminals from Bizerba can be integrated, including, for example, solutions of the type iS25, iS30 or iS50. The respective load receptors from Bizerba are used to match. The solution is completed with the various volumetric measuring devices of the MetriXFreight product family. These currently include the L200 / 205 system for pallet measurement and the S110 / 120 variants of a mobile table system for collecting master data.
In the interplay of the components, both weight and volume data are ultimately generated, combined and made available to the user via a common interface. The measuring speed of the manually fed goods, containers and pallets is a few hundred milliseconds, which has a positive effect on the throughput and process efficiency. The weighing and vision systems from Bizerba and Metrilus can also be calibrated individually and independently of one another, which further simplifies the handling and maintenance of the complete solution and ensures constant measuring accuracy.
The system is already being used successfully and has secured a permanent place in the incoming goods department of one of the largest national retail groups. In addition, a leading, international 3PL logistics service provider uses the new volume measurement system in the life sciences. A major manufacturer of consumer electronics also relies on the joint solution “Made in Germany”.
