Animal protection officer of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group visiting Tönnies

Rheda-Wiedenbrück, September 10, 2018 - The commissioner for animal welfare issues of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Silvia Breher MdB, currently visited the Tönnies company in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. In addition to exchanging information on current agricultural and environmental protection issues, Breher was particularly interested in animal protection issues at the slaughterhouse.

During the tour through the company, the MP was able to get her own picture of the individual steps of the slaughter, but also of the processing and refinement. The managing directors Andres Ruff and Ralf-Thomas Reichrath, as well as the head of the animal welfare department, Jörg Altemeier, answered questions from the members of the parliament.

In a joint technical discussion, Breher was impressed by the animal welfare measures that Tönnies is implementing at the slaughterhouse. “Our goal is that the animals are not exposed to any stress. That is why we use underfloor heating in the stable, soothing light and music and a gentle sprinkling of water, ”explains Altemeier.

Tönnies regularly seeks a dialogue with experts, consumers and interested parties on questions of animal welfare. More information on this under www.toennies-dialog.de
