INTERGASTRA is canceled

If those responsible for INTERGASTRA, the leading trade fair for the hotel and catering industry, were certain a few weeks ago that the trade fair could take place next February, the situation now looks different: At the moment, INTERGASTRA / GELATISSIMO 2022 is scheduled to take place in February is unlikely to be approved. The current corona regulation of the state of Baden-Württemberg (published at: www.baden-wuerttemberg.de) prohibits trade fairs and exhibitions from December 20, 2021 in the currently applicable alarm level II.

“The general conditions have changed,” explains Stefan Lohnert, Managing Director of Messe Stuttgart. “With regard to the current Corona situation, the omnipresent, growing uncertainty is clearly noticeable. The new Corona regulation that comes into force today has increased this uncertainty even more ”. GELATISSIMO, the largest ice cream trade fair north of the Alps, which takes place parallel to INTERGASTRA, is also affected. The popular ice cream competition Grand Prix GELATISSIMO will once again be the point of contact for gelatieri and ice cream professionals in 2022 as part of Südback, the trade fair for the bakery and confectionery trade, from October 22nd to 25th, 2022.

At the beginning of December, Messe Stuttgart was confident that it would be able to hold the trade fairs under strict security precautions. Together with partners and exhibitors, the aim was to give the industry a positive outlook for the new year. The trade fair team was in constant contact with exhibitors and partners, whereby the possibilities and opportunities were discussed just as intensively and transparently as the risks and challenges of the event. “The anticipation for the industry get-together in February was great. With the current ban on events, however, we cannot guarantee sufficient planning security, ”said Lohnert. "From the current point of view, there is a high probability that INTERGASTRA cannot take place in February."

The partners as well as the exhibiting companies give the trade fair backing: “For many of our member companies, visiting INTERGASTRA is a very special event: every two years restaurateurs and hoteliers find out about the latest products and trends and exchange ideas with colleagues. We very much regret that INTERGASTRA cannot take place in February 2022, ”emphasizes Fritz Engelhardt, Chairman of the Hotel and Restaurant Association DEHOGA Baden-Württemberg, who is the ideal sponsor of INTERGASTRA.

In line with its regular schedule, INTERGASTRA and its partners will once again welcome the whole world of hospitality to Stuttgart from 3 to 7 February 2024. Then the IKA / Culinary Olympics will take place for the second time parallel to INTERGASTRA. In 2020, chefs from around 70 nations took part in the largest, oldest and most colorful international culinary art exhibition. "A unique event that we not only want to repeat, but even increase!" Enthused Stefan Lohnert.
