The SÜFFA quality competitions are among the largest of their kind for craft businesses in Germany. A total of 2023 samples were received in advance of the sausage and ham competitions as part of SÜFFA 23 - the evaluation took place on September 474rd in the Alte Kelter in Fellbach - in order to be subjected to the verdict of the expert jury. The critical examiners awarded no fewer than 436 gold, silver and bronze medals. “The overall level was excellent, the error rate was low,” said the deputy state guild master and jury chairman Rüdiger Pyck. “Many new products of extraordinary quality also demonstrate the high level of innovation in our industry.”

In the individual competitions, there were 31 honorary prizes in the form of a trophy in addition to the respective product awards. To do this, a company had to be awarded a gold award several times in a category.

A porcelain Rössle was awarded to the three best participants in the Stuttgart ham sausage competition, which was integrated into the boiled sausage competition. The butcher Oskar Zeeb from Reutlingen can be happy about first place, followed by the butcher Thomas Klingler from Fellbach in second place and the country butcher Rupp from Sulzbach-Murr in third place.

The Kronenmetzgerei Stirner-Sinn from Gerlingen was delighted with the special prize and the title of Ham King as the company with the highest average points in the raw ham and cooked cured products competition - where they were each awarded a trophy.

The following craft businesses received the highest score of 100 points in the Maultaschen competition: the butcher Huber eK from Hechingen, the Idler Fleischwaren GmbH from Backnang-Waldrems, the Schäfer butcher from Weinstadt, the Schneider Metzgerei from Pliezhausen and the Winter butcher from Schorndorf. Together with the butcher Franz Bock from Markgröningen (99 points) they made it to the final on October 21.10st. claim victory among themselves. Final result: 1st place butchery Frank Winter butchery, 2nd place butchery Franz Bock and 3rd place butchery Schneider butchery.

In the young plate competition, Gloria Define Kamhuka won silver for her roast plate and Julia Winkler won gold with her ham plate. Lilia Eichwald won three golds and one silver in the finger food and flying buffet category. All three participants competed for the Freyberger butcher shop from Nuremberg.

Against the background of the much-lamented shortage of skilled workers, the vocational school competitions held at the trade fair once again provided more than just a silver lining: “Many young people used their Sunday off to conjure up something here at SÜFFA under enormous time pressure,” said Rüdiger Pyck from the state guild association. “This is a remarkable achievement! There were really great results among the young talent.” A total of 32 teams took part in the vocational school competitions. According to the jury, the work was consistently of a very high quality. The judges awarded nine gold medals, 13 silver medals and ten bronze medals. The team consisting of Julia Wirth from the Steinle butcher shop in Dilllingen ad Donau (48 out of 50 points) and Celina Braunmiller from the Steck butcher shop in Langenau (50 out of 50 points) were particularly pleased. Both competed for the Neu-Ulm State Vocational School and were the only team to also be awarded a trophy for their achievements.
