Further training pays off

The hope of a higher salary and improved opportunities for advancement - these are the top reasons that speak for further training as a state-certified food technician *. But does the further training really make itself felt in the salary and how do the chances of advancement improve through the newly acquired knowledge? In cooperation with Lebensmitteltechnik-Deutschland, foodjobs.de provides answers to the question of how much you earn as a state-certified food technician. The results of the study serve as a guide - especially for those who are aiming for further training to become a food technician.

Food technology graduates are on average 27 years old and earn € 38.900 gross per year when they start. But together with the experience and responsibility, the salary increases, so that a food technician at the age of 34 can look forward to an average annual gross salary of € 47.450. If a food technician has eleven years of professional experience or more, the average salary rises to € 79.000, with the prospect of top salaries of over € 100.000.

As in so many professions, the salary depends on various factors. The top earners among the food technicians are those with previous training as dairy technologists or butchers or butchers. In comparison, food technology specialists are in the good midfield, while chefs earn slightly below average.

Food technicians are in great demand. So it is not surprising that two thirds of the graduates find a job within the first three months. However, only 5% stay with their old employer, while the rest are devoted to new challenges. 13% of food technicians need four to six months to find a job, 15% take more than seven months to get employment.
"In the current situation, these numbers may not come as a surprise," explains Bianca Burmester, managing director and founder of foodjobs.de. "The corona pandemic has led to delays in hiring, including in the food industry."

Despite everything, you can look forward to a high salary and future-oriented career opportunities with further training to become a state-certified food technician. However, the following should not be overlooked: Money is important, but not everything. Above all, you should have a job that is fulfilling.

For the present study, the answers of 249 food technicians in the period from October 09.10.2020, 15.01.2021 to January XNUMX, XNUMX, who have already completed their training up to this point, were taken into account.
