Biodiversity and meat quality - something's going on!

This is shown not least by the many suckler cow farmers and beef producers who farm in extensive grassland regions," says Dr. Ulrich Schumacher, head of the animal husbandry department at Bioland eV “But this type of farming is also extremely demanding if it is to be really sustainable. The art of grassland management and use will be discussed extensively at the conference and supplemented with an exciting excursion in the Harz.”

Georg Terler from the Federal Teaching and Research Institute Raumberg-Gumpenstein (Austria) will take part in the conference as an expert on the subject of "Optimization of feeding in grassland-based cattle fattening". Terler provides insights into current results of practical research on fattening methods and meat quality. In addition, many other speakers will be available on site. The speakers will talk about effective nature conservation measures in practice, a successful combination of nature conservation and agriculture, the optimization of feeding in grassland-based cattle fattening, tips and tricks when dealing with suckler cows and young cattle, the potential of sustainable grazing for soil fertility, biodiversity and climate as well as opportunities and risks extensive grazing with beef cattle.

An excursion to Daniel Wehmeyer's beef cattle and direct marketing business rounds off the conference. His farm has already won the CeresAward and the national organic farming competition.
