Labor law is not an effective remedy against Corona

In the current political debate about work contracts and shared accommodation in the meat industry on the occasion of corona infections in slaughterhouses, Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil announced concrete legislative measures for the "Corona Cabinet" today, Monday. In the room is a ban on work contracts for only one industry, namely the meat processing industry. Friedrich-Otto Ripke, President of the Central Association of the German Poultry Industry e. V. (ZDG):

"With the irrelevant and politically negligent push to ban service contracts in the meat industry alone, politicians are ignoring the facts and stigmatizing our industry. If the impression is to be created that labor law levers can be used to effectively prevent infection, then the Corona crisis is merely fulfilling an alibi function in the ideologically motivated fight against an unpopular industry. Targeted and determined action against black sheep would be appropriate. To make a rough generalization hits the vast majority of our correctly working companies completely unjustified! The corona test results from meat processing companies published today are largely negative. Fortunately, everyone should note gratefully, because these companies contribute to the food security of our population every day. We are resolutely defending ourselves against stigmatizing politics, which should ultimately even lead to cabinet bills. Such discrimination would most likely also violate applicable constitutional law. It is almost worse that politicians did not even sit down with us at a round table and talk about future developments. We are happy to bring our lived responsibility in the design of work contracts and infection protection closer to politics. In a European comparison, we are doing very well and still say we can always get better!”
