Cabinet decision on work contract regulation in the meat industry highly questionable

According to media reports, the day before yesterday the Federal Cabinet passed various regulations on occupational safety in the meat industry and a ban on work contracts for meat companies. The planned additions to actual occupational safety are supported by the meat industry association. However, a ban on work contracts is not an occupational safety measure and must be questioned with regard to the desired mode of action and the legal feasibility.

The ban on work contracts to carry out certain activities in meat plants that exceed a certain size is arbitrary discrimination. It remains to be seen how this will be implemented in a law and whether such a regulation can endure.

The VDF had Chancellor Merkel and her ministers presented a very concrete 5-point planhow the conditions under criticism can be regulated in a binding and nationwide manner. The abolition of contract employment for the meat industry, on the other hand, is completely inappropriate for regulating the issues that are the subject of criticism.
