Prohibition of work contracts wrong and disproportionate

Friedrich-Otto Ripke, President of the Central Association of the German Poultry Industry e. V. (ZDG):

"We are appalled by this wrong and disproportionate decision, which will have devastating consequences for Germany as a business location. Politicians are willingly accepting the closure of slaughterhouses in Germany and the loss of thousands of jobs. Today's decision endangers the existence of an entire industry - our state-of-the-art slaughterhouses with their world-leading standards of hygiene and food safety as well as the animal welfare-oriented family farms. If the slaughterhouses move away, German livestock farmers will lose their livelihoods - and animal welfare and the consumer's declared desire for meat from controlled German production will be done a disservice. From our point of view, the ban on work contracts exclusively for a single industry violates the principle of equality in the Basic Law. We consider the decision to be clearly unconstitutional and have this legally reviewed. In any case, we need a reasonable transition period. The date January 1, 2021 is unreasonable. Politicians must now finally sit down at a round table with business. It's bad enough that she didn't do this before making her decision. In any case, we want to live up to our responsibility.”
