German poultry industry appoints Michael Steinhauser as Head of Communication

The Central Association of the German Poultry Industry (ZDG) is reorganizing its communication: Michael Steinhauser is now responsible for the Communications and Public Relations department for the German poultry industry. He succeeds Christiane von Alemann, who left at the end of last year at her own request.

Michael Steinhauser comes from Intersport Deutschland eG in Heilbronn to the ZDG office in Berlin. At Intersport he has been in charge of corporate communications for the association group since 2012. Steinhauser is now responsible for communication and public relations for the poultry industry. At the same time, he is press spokesman for the ZDG with its affiliated federal associations.

"In Michael Steinhauser, we have been able to gain an experienced communicator who knows both the association and the company side very well. With him, we want to further strengthen our public perception as a poultry industry and further develop communication digitally. We are already looking forward to the successful cooperation," says Dr. Thomas Janning, Managing Director of the ZDG.

As Head of Corporate Communications, Michael Steinhauser was most recently involved in the strategic realignment of Intersport Deutschland eG. Before that, he worked as a freelance entrepreneur with his PR agency for clients such as UEFA, the Zillertal tourist region and the Sat.1 TV station. The 44-year-old began his professional career as a radio and TV journalist with stations at Bayerischer Rundfunk and German Sports Television. He is a graduate media scientist with a degree from the TU Ilmenau.

With the appointment of Michael Steinhauser, a key position at the ZDG has been competently filled. dr Thomas Janning: “The German poultry industry has been campaigning for more transparency in its external presentation and intensive dialogue with the public for many years. With Michael Steinhauser, we are consistently pursuing this path. It stands for modern, targeted and open communication. This is an important concern for us in the association – especially in challenging times like these.”

Strong industry communication
The ZDG is responsible for a communications budget of around 3,5 million euros per year. The central association thus provides industry-related press and public relations services as well as professional industry communication for the egg and slaughter poultry industry. Around 85% of the funds are raised by the Economic Group of Poultry Meat Production for communication measures in the socio-political area and for sales promotion of poultry meat.
