Government adopts voluntary animal welfare label for pork

Yesterday the federal government approved a voluntary animal welfare label for pork. The new seal is just a "positive sign". Meat that contains this label must be produced according to criteria that go beyond the "legal minimum animal protection standard". This applies to the husbandry, transport and slaughter of the animals. At a later date, the label is also to be applied to poultry and beef.
