Agro Logistics Support Center established

bring together researchers and companies from NRW and the funds Landen

The Gelderland and the adjacent North Rhine-Westphalia region are not only important agriculture areas, but also logistical hub for the German market and neighboring European markets. The province of Gelderland and the Development Company Oost NV will together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) encourage cooperation between companies and applied research in these regions and establish this network "Agro Logistics Support Center" (ASC).

Main objectives of the ASC

The Agrologistics Support Center (ASC) with its partners aims to establish a cross-border platform for the exchange of new developments in the food chain. This is intended to create a sustainable regional cooperation structure that structurally reinforces the regions of Gelderland and North Rhine-Westphalia in the areas of logistics and agrofood. No further network or cluster should explicitly be set up. Rather, it is about offering an additional service, namely networking in the field of cross-border research and innovation promotion in the field of agro-logistics and food chain management, which is to be made available to all existing networks and their network partners.

Functions of the ASC

The Support Center offers companies from Germany and the Netherlands specific services, such as a cost-neutral initial consultation on process optimization through individual solution proposals for the use of technology or support in the economic analysis of innovative technology use (business case). The services are subject to the overriding function of ensuring a neutral transfer of knowledge from research to practice.

Interested companies in the field of agrologistics and food chain management are invited to contact the Agrologistics Support Center! The Agrologistics Support Center is looking forward to numerous innovative and practice-relevant projects!

3 questions about the Agrologistics Support Center (ASC)

Question: Why are we starting the Agrologistics Support Center (ASC)?

We are starting the ASC to promote networking in the field of cross-border research and innovation promotion in the field of agro-logistics and food chain management. On the other hand, with the ASC, we want to strengthen the exchange of knowledge between the Netherlands and Germany and between science and practice.

We are convinced that the cooperation in the Agrologistics Support Center can improve the competitive position of companies in the logistics, agro-food and food sectors in the largest Dutch province of Gelderland and in the neighboring German states. The ASC thus contributes to the fact that the companies along the food chain remain innovative and efficient.

Question: What are our common goals?

The Agrologistics Support Center (ASC) with its partners aims to create a cross-border platform for the exchange of information about new developments in the food chain. The Support Center offers companies from Germany and the Netherlands specific services for this, such as a cost-neutral initial consultation on process optimization through individual solution proposals for the use of technology or support in the economic analysis of innovative technology use (business case). The services are subject to the overriding objective of guaranteeing a neutral transfer of knowledge from research to practice.

Question: What do we at Fraunhofer IML expect from this for our own organization?

The Fraunhofer IML sees advantages in the cooperation for an improved and permanent cooperation within the framework of a European research policy. The exchange of knowledge enables needs-based and application-oriented logistics research. The application-oriented "research for practice" is anchored in the mission statement of the Fraunhofer Society. The Fraunhofer IML has also committed itself to this goal. We look forward to working with the Netherlands in the Agrologistics Support Center on many exciting topics that are of direct benefit to companies on both sides of the border.
