Digital change has long since begun in the butcher trade

Frankfurt am Main, August 7, 2017. If, in future, sausages are bought online and then landed on the table by drone, who would want to go to a butcher's shop? The digital transformation has already buried so many traditional industries under itself or at least turned them upside down. Cameras that need film or travel agencies that sell plane tickets, who needs that anymore? clothes, books? Today everything is available in the online department store. Digitization has also long since arrived in the trades. But how does it affect butchery businesses now and in the future?

The German Butchers' Association will get to the bottom of these questions on September 18 as part of a workshop day in Frankfurt. The aim of the event, entitled "Digital change in the butcher trade", is to convey the broadest and most comprehensive picture possible of the situation and to sharpen the focus of entrepreneurs in the butcher trade on digital change. Because in the opinion of the DFV, it offers small and medium-sized companies in particular a lot of opportunities.

That's why experts from very different areas will come together in Frankfurt in September to focus on the effects of digital change on the butcher's trade. Science and trade organizations are represented as well as digitization professionals from IT companies and start-up founders. There are also handicraft businesses that have already gained initial experience with the subject. According to the idea of the organizers, everyone should contribute their own personal perspective.

In addition, three companies will present how they prepare the topic of digitization for their customers. Inosoft AG from Marburg, in cooperation with KG Wetter, will present an experimental 3D glasses application for butchers. With its RetailApps program, Bizerba will show how digital support can be brought into the analog workflow step by step. Content Management AG, known for company websites, will present a digital concept for recruiting skilled workers under the heading "Jobbooster".

The organizers are also hoping for special impressions from the venue. The Skydeck on the 30th floor of the Deutsche Bahn high-rise in downtown Frankfurt not only offers a breathtaking view, but is also the headquarters of DB Systel, the central organizational unit for the innovation efforts and digitization of Deutsche Bahn. During the event, their representatives will explain how they successfully advance digital change in a traditional company with a fundamentally analogue business model.

According to DFV press spokesman Gero Jentzsch, the core question is always how to preserve the central strengths of the butcher's trade, its unmistakable characteristics, in a world of digital change. The event is open to all member companies of the DFV and members of the Junior Association of the German Butchers' Trade.
