Suga 2011: 2011 Every worker almost 13 days sick

By the number of sick days in the German economy a production loss of 2011 billion euros, was formed in 46. If one allocates the total 460,6 million lost work days with the number of employees in Germany, then everyone was statistically of them 12,6 days incapacitated. This is the conclusion of the report is "health and safety at work 2011" (Suga, formerly accident prevention report work), to create the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) annually on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS).

The number of reportable accidents has fallen in Germany, according to Suga in 2011. Yet their numbers during this period was over one million. Thus, the number of reported accidents is slowly approaching again the lowest level of the year 2009, in the 25,8 1.000 of full-time employees were victims of an industrial accident. Their number has actually increased in this period compared to 2010 - here are mainly increases in diseases caused by asbestos recorded.

The focus of Suga is devoted to the issue 2011 of psychological distress in the workplace and mental illness. Data and new insights as has published in Stress Report 2012 in January 2013 BAuA. Suga now provides figures on disability and early retirement due to mental illness. Mentally stressful working conditions are therefore widespread in the world of work as before. However, they have not increased in recent years, as a comparison to surveys from the years 2005 / 2006 shows. The number of days off work due to mental illness, meanwhile, has increased. In 2008 there were 41 million missed work days in the year 2011 already 59,2 million. In the cause of research has to be considered, however, that psychological stress does not only occur in the workplace. They also may have other consequences than mental disorders, such as cardiovascular or musculoskeletal disorders.

The two main causes of disability are like in the years diseases of the musculoskeletal system and diseases of the respiratory system previously. The number of caused by them working days lost has increased compared to the year 2010.

For the annual report "Health and Safety at Work - Accident prevention report work" evaluates the BAuA information about the work and commuting accidents and occupational diseases by all holders of statutory accident insurance from. BAuA also uses information from the Federal Statistical Office, the pension system, various health insurance companies, the Labour Inspectorate and the BIBB / BAuA- employment survey.
