Sögel slaughterhouse: intensive discussions about infection protection and continued operation

Due to increasing corona cases among the employees of the company Weidemark in Sögel, the district of Emsland ordered the closure of the slaughterhouse a few days ago. Intensive discussions are currently taking place with company representatives in order to enable operations to be resumed as soon as possible.

"They are good and constructive discussions in which we look for a solution together," assesses District Administrator Burgdorf. The company presented a concept for resuming operations, which must now be evaluated from an infectious point of view. Because only if the infection process in the company is under control and the conditions of the health department are met, a restricted operation can start again, the district administrator continues. The aim is to enable the slaughterhouse to cease operations as early as the coming week, while adhering to strict infection control measures. The talks on this would continue in the coming days.

The protection of employees and people in the Emsland enjoy top priority. "Nonetheless, we are of course interested in a constructive solution for all those involved, which particularly takes the subject of animal welfare and pig farmers into account," said District Administrator Burgdorf in conclusion.
