China kills 100.000 pigs

African swine fever has arrived in China. In the meantime, cases of swine fever have been reported from various provinces, and new reports are added every day. The government is most afraid of outbreaks in the south, where the large pig farms with over 500 million animals are located. Transport bans were imposed in the affected parts of the country. The virus can spread even when the meat is dried or cured, and the pathogen can survive for weeks. African swine fever was first detected in an animal in August this year. So far, more than 100.000 animals have been killed as a precautionary measure (in order to prevent the spread of the pathogen).
