Authentic pictures of turkey farming in Germany

Berlin, January 24, 2019. "We want every consumer to get to know German turkey husbandry and our daily work as a keeper with the animals - with authentic insights into the stable, lots of information and surprising facts!" With these words, Thomas Storck describes, Chairman of the VDP Association of German Turkey Producers V. and Vice President of the ZDG Central Association of the German Poultry Industry e. V., the new brochure “Turkey Keeping in Germany”, which the German poultry industry presented on the occasion of the International Green Week (IGW) that is currently running in Berlin.

On 16 pages, the new brochure illustrates, in an easy-to-understand way and with various elements, how turkeys are kept in Germany today:

  • Authentic pictures and the Look into the stable: What do turkey roosters and hen look like? Why is there a rotating straw basket hanging in the stable? And do turkey houses actually have windows?
  • Important Facts about attitude - such as the number of animals kept, the stocking density or the rearing time - are brought closer to the consumer with short information boxes.
  • The young turkey owner Hubert-Markus Brauweiler reported from North Rhine-Westphalia in the interviewwhat makes working with turkeys so special and how important his job as a keeper is.
  • Auch critical consumer issues are picked up: Why are the beaks shortened? When are antibiotics given? And what about the accusation that the animals are supposedly bred in such a way that they can no longer stand?

Hintergrund:
Nowadays consumers want to know what the keeping of farm animals looks like in Germany. It is therefore a central concern of the German poultry industry to bring the work of the industry and the many thousands of poultry farmers closer to the public with its transparent information offering: whether digitally - with the website German-Poultry.de and the Facebook channel “Poultry Republic of Germany” - or still the classic “offline” via brochures to take away and leaf through. And the German poultry industry is continuously expanding this offer. A brochure on chicken farming is already available.

A digital inspection copy of the turkey husbandry brochure is attached to this press release. If you are interested, the turkey and chicken husbandry brochures can be ordered in printed form from the joint office of the German poultry industry.
