Schlagbauer resigns from all public offices with immediate effect
Munich. That was a bang in Munich. Master butcher Georg Schlagbauer (44) has resigned from all public offices held by him with immediate effect. He had his lawyer send out a statement that he was resigning "for health and family reasons", but he did not want to say more about it.
Georg Schlagbauer was head of the state guild of the Bavarian butchers' association and vice-president and treasurer of the German butchers' association. At the same time he was President of the Chamber of Crafts in Munich and Upper Bavaria and President of the Bavarian Crafts Day. He was politically active in the CSU and has been a city councilor in Munich since 2006. For the last few years he was the so-called Wiesn city councilor. Schlagbauer was considered a safe candidate for a seat in the next Bavarian state parliament. In the German Butchers' Association he was traded as the successor to President Heinz-Werner Süss.
According to consistent media reports, the Munich public prosecutor's office is investigating Schlagbauer for drug abuse. Schlagbauer reported there himself. He had been buying and using drugs for a long time. There are sources that speak of cocaine. The Süddeutsche also notes that there are unpaid bills in the red-light district, as confirmed by a club owner. Unconfirmed are statements from his environment that there were or were family problems.
The Munich CSU leadership was quite embarrassed by this bad news and CSU chairman and Prime Minister Horst Seehofer said: "This is again extremely sad news." That was "very serious" and "very annoying".
The German and Bavarian butchers' associations have not yet commented.
