Tönnies appoints Gereon Schulze Althoff to the management board

The Tönnies group of companies has Dr. Gereon Schulze Althoff appointed to the management board. As Chief Sustainability Officer (ESG), the 48-year-old is responsible for the central area of ​​sustainability in the entire group. The specialist veterinarian for food and a doctorate in agricultural science has been responsible for quality management and veterinary services at Tönnies since 2017.

"We want to bring the topic of sustainability, which moves us more than ever, even more strongly into the corporate management and give the whole thing an appropriate weighting," says Max Tönnies, managing partner, explaining the decision. In the past three years, the company has invested a three-digit million amount in resource protection and automation measures. According to him, further investments are in the pipeline.

"We want to produce food sustainably and strengthen rural agriculture in Germany," says Dr. Gereon Schulze Althoff his tasks and goals. In order to be economically successful, the protection of resources and the environment is essential for the group of companies.

The Federal Republic is Wurstland number one. But: "We can get even better." Schulze Althoff on aspects such as healthy nutrition, climate efficiency, animal welfare and social care. He wants to bring this forward on a science-based basis in order to calmly resolve conflicting goals. "That's what I want to do in my new job."

dr Schulze Althoff is also a board member of the German Meat Industry Association (VDF).
