After an apprenticeship as a butcher in his parents' butcher's shop in Nuremberg, Dr. Wiegner for the scientific underpinning of his practical knowledge. This was followed by studies in food technology and veterinary medicine at the Free University of Berlin. The specialist veterinarian for food hygiene received his doctorate from Prof. Dr. Sinell and with Prof. Dr. Hildebrandt on spoilage parameters for vacuum-packed fresh meat. Since April 2000, Dr. Wiegner Managing Director at BVDF. He has been associated with the DLG in various functions since 1976. First was dr. Wiegner research assistant. From 1988 onwards he made himself available as an expert and since 1992 as a test group leader for the scalded, boiled and raw sausage tests. He was particularly interested in ready meals and delicatessen. From 1982 to 1999 he worked first with Prof. Sinell and then with Prof. Baumgart as an employee of the authorized representative. The structure of the fresh meat tests was developed by Dr. Wiegner since 2000 as a member of the DLG Commission for the Meat Industry and as a test group leader. In 2007, when the test was relocated to Berlin, he took over the position of authorized representative for fresh meat. Since 2009 dr. Wiegner is a member of the DLG general committee, which represents the interests of the currently around 20.000 DLG members.
