On October 11th, Prof. Dr. Achim Stiebing, head of the meat technology major at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (Lemgo), celebrates his 60th birthday. Since 2006 he has been one of the two vice-presidents of the DLG (German Agricultural Society) and at the same time chairman of the DLG test center for food. Prof. Stiebing is one of the outstanding personalities in the German meat and nutrition industry who also enjoy a high reputation abroad.

Professional competence, foresight, a keen sense of strategic course setting and consistent action characterize Prof. Stiebing. He has been contributing his great knowledge and ability to the work of the DLG in an exemplary manner for around 35 years. The fact that the DLG has taken decisive steps on the way to a future-oriented orientation in recent years bears his signature.

After completing an apprenticeship as a butcher and studying food technology in Berlin, Prof. Stiebing worked for 14 years as a scientist at the Federal Institute for Meat Research in Kulmbach. In 1991 he was appointed to the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (formerly FH Lippe) in Lemgo, where he represents the subject of meat technology. Even as a young scientist, Prof. Stiebing sought close contact with the DLG and has been involved in quality testing in the field of meat and sausage products in various functions since 1977. In 1991 he was appointed scientific director of the raw sausage test by the DLG board. In 1997 he became a member of the main committee and deputy chairman of what was then the Market and Nutrition department. Since 2005 he has been chairman of the newly founded DLG Food Test Center. He has promoted and promoted the reorganization of the DLG in the food sector with the formation of the test center for food and the specialist center for the food industry, as well as the stronger profile of the DLG in recent years. The promotion of young people is also particularly close to his heart. His special position in the DLG is also made clear by the fact that Prof. Stiebing is the first Vice President from the food industry in the almost 125-year history of the DLG. In 2003, the board of directors awarded him the silver Max Eyth commemorative coin for his great services to the DLG and the further development of quality work.
