New trade fair for meat and food processing in Thailand

Together with its partner VNU Asia Pacific, Messe Frankfurt is launching a new trade fair for the food industry - Meat Pro Asia. Aimed at the markets of the ASEAN region, it will take place for the first time from March 10th to 12th, 2021 in Bangkok. Meat Pro Asia will open its doors parallel to the established VIV Asia - International Fair for Animal Breeding and Food Production.

"The signals in the industry are positive," says Wolfgang Marzin, CEO of Messe Frankfurt, when announcing the new event: "Despite the challenging first half of the year, we continue to see opportunities for new trade fairs in emerging and industrialized countries around the world establish. With an increasingly affluent population of 600 million, the ASEAN region offers a particularly exciting perspective. We see high growth potential here in the food industry, which we are taking into account with the new trade fair.”

Albert Arp, Group CEO of Royal Jaarbeurs / VNU Group, comments: "The close cooperation with Messe Frankfurt in Asia strengthens and completes - especially towards the downstream part of the supply chain - VNU's already leading position in the Asian market around production animal proteins.”

Strong together for the industry
The cooperation between VNU Asia Pacific and Messe Frankfurt, both experienced organizers in the field of food processing, will offer great added value to the participants of the new trade fair.

“In close cooperation with Messe Frankfurt, we primarily want to use Meat Pro Asia to address the top suppliers and buyers in the processing industry. The event should be the first address for everything to do with meat processing and packaging in the ASEAN region," adds Heiko Stutzinger, Managing Director of VNU Asia Pacific. “Food processing has consistently been the fastest growing product group in recent editions of VIV Asia, demonstrating demand both in Thailand and the wider region. By co-hosting Meat Pro Asia with VIV Asia we aim to appeal to the full spectrum of food technology trade buyers. We are confident that this new standalone event will be a great success.”

A growing market
Driven by demand from a growing middle class, the processed food market in ASEAN countries is expected to grow 2023 percent annually through 4,7. An even more important contributor to the industry's growth trajectory is the government's policy of making Thailand one of the world's top five food exporters by 2036. This will create a favorable trading and regulatory environment from which Meat Pro Asia attendees can benefit.

The Meat Pro Asia will depict the entire process chain of meat processing. This includes slaughtering, processing, packaging, labelling, cold chain logistics, quality control, hygiene, IoT and automation, waste water management and much more. The visitor groups addressed by the new exhibition include processors, food retailers, importers, exporters, wholesalers, manufacturers, agents, distributors and engineering firms.

Meat Pro Asia will take place at the same time as the established VIV Asia - International Exhibition for Animal Breeding and Food Production. Both events together form the entire supply chain under one roof. The VIV Asia takes place every two years. Covering an area of 31.000 square meters, the 2019 edition attracted 1.245 exhibitors and 45.000 visitors.

Meat Pro Asia is organized by Messe Frankfurt New Era Business Media Ltd. and VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific Co Ltd. organized. The kick-off event will take place from March 10th to 12th, 2021 at the IMPACT Exhibition & Convention Center in Bangkok.

Meat Pro Asia complements Messe Frankfurt's portfolio in the “Food Technologies” area. So far, five trade fairs belong to this cluster, consisting of the IFFA in Frankfurt am Main, the Tecno Fidta in Buenos Aires, the Process Expo in Chicago as well as the Modern Bakery and the Salon du Chocolat in Moscow. These international events accompany the dynamic growth of the industry and promote innovative solutions for the sustainable and responsible use of food for a growing world population.
