Anuga Frozen Food with innovative frozen products and new trends

March 6, 2021 is Frozen Food Day. Frozen food was born 91 years ago in ten grocery stores in the small town of Springfield, Massachusetts. Frozen foods such as vegetables, fruit and fish could be bought there for the first time. The highlight was the so-called shock freezing, which is still the gentlest type of preservation today, as it completely dispenses with preservatives. In 1984 the American President Ronald Reagan introduced "Frozen Food Day" to honor the achievements of the frozen food industry in the USA. In the meantime, this culinary holiday is also remembered internationally, in Germany as "Frozen Food Day".

Anuga played a central role in frozen food from the very beginning, as it was here in 1955 that frozen products were presented to a broad public outside the USA for the first time. And at this year's Anuga, which will take place from October 9th to 13th, 2021, the frozen food industry will once again be presenting the most important innovations in the industry as part of Anuga Frozen Food. The frozen food segment is one of the central drivers of innovation both in retail and in the out-of-home market.

Numerous international suppliers will be presenting the complete international range of products, possible applications and services at the upcoming Anuga. The demand remains high. The following exhibitors have already registered for the fair: 11er Nahrungsmittel, Agrarfrost, Alfa Athanasios, Arabatzis Michail, Ardo, Aviko, Crop's, Erlenbacher, G7, Greenyard Frozen, Neuhauser, Pfalzgraf, Roncadin, Surgital, Viciunai and Virto Group. The most important group participations include Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey and Russia.

The offer ranges from fish and Meat from frozen bread and baked goods to vegetables and fruit as well as ready meals in various portions and sizes. Anuga Frozen Food is one of the largest Anuga trade fairs and connects the frozen food industry with retail and the out-of-home market, because the frozen food segment is one of the most important trendsetters here. The frozen food industry is focusing on the change towards resource-saving and sustainable nutrition and is thus also contributing to the main theme of “Transform” at this year's Anuga. There is hardly any other segment in which manufacturers develop new products and ever better and simpler solutions for consumers so continuously and successfully. Due to the pandemic, some providers are currently having to adapt to the new needs of consumers and other forms of catering. Convenience products are becoming even more important, for example through increased home office use. Here, however, consumers are also increasingly paying attention to the ingredients, as they want to consume healthy and sustainable products. Plant-based frozen products are also an important trend. But classics such as frozen pizzas or ice cream are still reliable and in high demand.

Anuga Frozen Food 2021 will again be supported by the German Frozen Food Institute dti, which has been the trade fair's exclusive partner since 2013. At the trade fair and the digital Anuga @home, the dti provides important information, data and facts about the frozen food market. As every year, the highlight is the TIEFKÜHL STAR NIGHT, which will take place on October 11, 2021 in the Kristallsaal on the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds.

The German frozen food market
Nowadays, frozen food has become an indispensable part of daily nutrition: Almost every household (97,5 percent *) buys and appreciates the products from the cold. With more than 17.000 frozen items, the range in retail is very wide. The annual per capita consumption in Germany is now around 47 kilograms. This is a quantum leap compared to 1960, when it was still at an average of 800 grams (source Deutsches Tiefkühlinstitut eV).
