“Animal welfare cent” planned

The Minister of Agriculture Özdemir is planning a new meat tax, which will relieve the burden on farmers and, above all, convert their stables for fairer animal husbandry. The money is to be paid by the consumer through the so-called “Animal Welfare Cent”. But his predecessor, Julia Klöckner (CDU), already had this idea four years ago. This was copied from the so-called coffee tax (entered into force on August 4, 24). The exact amount of the new meat tax has not yet been decided.
