An ideal training medium in personal and hand hygiene

Dermalux® System: Immediately visualize and train more effectively with the fluorescence method

The personnel in the food and pharmaceutical industry as well as in the catering industry need hand hygiene training just like employees, trainees and students in hospitals as well as in care facilities: Training with the Dermalux® system enables all training steps within one training unit: The dangers of cross-contamination, the Even when shaking hands can be made visible just as quickly as the correct hand disinfection and hand cleaning can be demonstrated and the recommended skin protection measures. If you traditionally needed the contact test with an incubation period of up to 48 hours to detect the contamination of hands, the fluorescence method can be used to make invisible soiling on the hands of the training participants immediately visible during the training.

With the Dermalux® system, controls are not necessarily carried out; above all, hygiene awareness is raised in a simple and extremely effective way in a matter of seconds. Test results have shown this for years. Very soon the trainer develops a feeling for the communication possibilities of the training system and can convey learning content according to his individual ideas or vary the fun factor for the participants without "showing" someone in a way that is uncomfortable for him.

This is how the Dermalux® system is used for training

Before greeting, the trainer applies the Dermalux® test lotion, which is invisible in daylight, to his hand and greets the participants with a handshake. The Dermalux® Checkbox makes this "cross-contamination" produced in this way impressively visible on the hands of the training participants. They experience how easily and quickly dirt can be transferred. This raises hygiene awareness and the training participants are motivated to wash and disinfect their hands as necessary.

The correct implementation of hand disinfection can then be simulated and trained in an equally memorable way. Training materials specially developed for this purpose, which are based on the commercially available disinfectants, are applied to the hands by the training participants in the same way as with hygienic hand disinfection. Areas on the hands that have not been rubbed in can be identified immediately. Studies have shown that, among other things, the spaces between the fingers and areas around the nail beds are often left out. Post-processing or the correct application can be demonstrated and practiced directly under the Dermalux® Checkbox. This ensures that the participants will be able to use the commercially available disinfectants better after the training. It is important to be sure to reach all parts of the hand first before the rubbing time can expire according to the instructions.

The correct washing of hands can also be shown as part of the training. The participants are asked to wash their hands with the test product applied all over the area. The subsequent check under the Dermalux® checkbox shows the areas that are often neglected when washing: nails and nail beds, the ball of the thumb, finger joints or, to the surprise of many, for right-handed people, for example, the tip of the right thumb. It is then recommended to repeat the washing of hands.

The range of possible training elements can be expanded at will. It is recommended in some areas, e.g. B. to explain what "disinfected dirt" is and at the end of the training the participants should also know how the skin protection preparations that healthy skin needs must be correctly applied to the hands.

The Dermalux® system components

In its well thought-out compactness, the Dermalux® system represents an elegant solution to the many training requirements that daily practice has. Due to the clarity of the fluorescence method, the system is recommended as a particularly suitable didactic medium and is widely used by professional associations and occupational physicians in the context of skin protection measures due to its excellent properties. Last but not least, it was created in close cooperation with the University Dermatological Clinic in Jena under Professor Peter Elsner.

The portable Dermalux® Checkbox was professionally developed by the industrial designer Kai-Uwe Witte from Offenbach for the training situation according to the requirements of practice. It is equipped with UV tubes, with specially ingenious technical equipment ensuring that the interior of the device has optimal lighting conditions. The device costs EUR 845,00 plus VAT. and shipping for mains operation, but is also available in a battery version. A transport and display case is also available, and a detachable trolley can also be ordered. Since the end of 2002, the Dermalux® Multimedia Cam, available as an accessory for the UV device, has also been available for displaying images on a TV or beamer.

Impressive in their effectiveness as a means of communication, the Dermalux® test products complete the system. They should be authentic enough, but most importantly make sure the training works well. They develop a high luminosity, shine in clean white, feel pleasant on the skin and only contain hypoallergenic odorants to the absolutely necessary extent. Test media for various fluorescence applications are also developed and produced by KBD GmbH for industry on behalf of customers.
