Argentina wants to deliver more meat to Russia
"If this request is granted, Argentina will vote in favor of Russia joining the World Trade Organization," said the newspaper "Clarin", which appears in the Argentine capital, citing government sources.
According to the newspaper, Argentina's deputy minister for the food industry, Claudio Sabsay, asked his colleagues during negotiations with representatives of Russia's economy ministry last week "not to put up any barriers to discrimination when issuing quotas for beef and soy supplies from Argentina".
He pointed out that Argentina was the largest supplier of meat to the USSR from 1974 to 1984. At that time, 25 percent of Argentina's meat exports went to the Soviet Union.
Now Buenos Aires would like to get an annual quota of 35 tons from Russia.
