Meat production increased significantly in the first quarter of 2004

In the first quarter of 2004, almost 1,7 million tons of meat were commercially produced in Germany, including 250 tons of poultry meat. This is an increase of 200% compared to the first quarter of 6,3.

As the Federal Statistical Office also reports, meat production from commercial slaughter (excluding poultry) in the first quarter of 2004 totaled a good 1,4 million tons, including 1,1 million tons of pork and 0,3 million tons of beef (excluding veal). . The total slaughter volume from commercial slaughter increased by 2003 tons or 78% compared to the first quarter of 300; pork production increased by 5,8 tons or 55%, beef production by 100 tons or 5,3%.

The increase in beef production is mainly due to the significant increase in the slaughtering of cows, oxen and bulls: 11,9% more cows and 5,2% more oxen and bulls were slaughtered. The increase in cow slaughter was observed in all months of the quarter. The number of slaughtered steers, bulls and heifers, on the other hand, only increased in February and March. In March, bull slaughtering increased by 22,6%, heifer slaughtering by 13,0% and steer slaughtering by 11,6% compared to the same month last year. Calves have been slaughtered noticeably more frequently since February: 13,9% more in February, 26,8% more in March compared to the respective month of the previous year. Overall, this points to a further reduction in cattle numbers.

Poultry meat production increased by 2004% to 9,3 tons in the first quarter of 250 compared to the same period of the previous year, and thus accounts for 200% of total commercial meat production. In the same quarter of the previous year it was 15,0%. This includes 14,6 tonnes of young broiler chicken meat, 135 tonnes of duck meat and 000 tonnes of turkey meat. Compared to the first quarter of 11, the production of young chicken meat increased by 000% or 95 000 tons, of duck meat by 2003% or 12,9 15 tons and of turkey meat by 400% or 10,6 1 tons.
