International Alliance for Feed Safety

On the way to a uniform international standard for the quality assurance of feed materials

To harmonize the worldwide differences in quality assurance systems, four organizations - AIC for the United Kingdom, OVOCOM for Belgium, the Productschap Diervoeder for the Netherlands and QS for Germany are working together with FEFAC (European Feed Manufacturers Association) on a joint initiative to establish the International Alliance for feed safety (IFSA: International Feed Safety Alliance). This alliance is developing a common standard for the quality assurance of feed materials. The individual standards, which are currently owned by the four national organizations, will then be converted into a common standard. The goals of the alliance are as follows:
    • The development of a common standard for feed materials that will make a significant contribution to ensuring feed and food safety.
    • The common standard will cover the requirements for the global procurement of feed materials by European feed manufacturers.
    • IFSA will establish and manage an International Feed Materials Program to ensure compliance, control of implementation, certification and auditing of the standard.
    • IFSA recognizes the importance of working closely with all supplier stakeholders in the preparation of the IFSA programme.
    • IFSA is committed to implementing this vision in the most cost-effective way.

All partners involved in this important initiative recognize the benefits of bringing certification and auditing into a common international IFSA program. In addition, a uniform standard will also facilitate European cooperation and harmonization. The existing standards will be phased in from January 2005. For more information please contact:
