Commitment to food waste

On April 3, 2019, Federal Food Minister Julia Klöckner announced the Too good for the bin! - Federal Prize 2019 awarded. A total of 18 projects were nominated in five categories (agriculture & production, trade, gastronomy, society & education and - for the first time - digitization). Further projects were honored with a sponsorship award. The jury selected the 117 winners from 2019 applications:

Agriculture & Production:
ShoutOutLoud eV for "Frankfurter Knärzje - A bread beer against the food waste" (Frankfurt, Hessen). The association manufactures together with two breweries the zero-waste beer "Frankfurter Knärzje" from old bread.

Gastronomy:
Cassius garden for "eat everything" (Bonn, NRW). In this restaurant hardly any food waste. The food of the guests is calculated by weight. Shortly before closing time the guests are queuing up to take reduced-price leftovers.

Trade:
Penny Markt GmbH for "Precious rescue" and "Naturgut Bio-Helden" (Cologne, NRW). The discounter markets fruits and vegetables with blemishes. In addition, he advocates that the best before date is not to be understood as a disposable date and has printed on his dairy appropriate references.

digitization:
Too Good to Go GmbH (Berlin). Consumers can buy excess food from restaurants, bakeries and supermarkets at a discount through the Too Good To Go app.

Society & Education:
Ackerdemia e. V. for "Ackern creates education" (Potsdam, Brandenburg). The association sensitises children to where our food comes from and how to grow it. The heart of the association is the year-round, award-winning education program GemüseAckerdemie for schools and day-care centers.

Promotional prices with 5.000 Euro each:
Antegon GmbH for "Food Tracks" (Münster, NRW). The company wants to make bakeries more efficient by means of a software so that less bread and rolls end up in the garbage.

Bioland Gemüsehof Hörz for "mineral resources" (Filderstadt, Baden-Württemberg). From crooked vegetables become mineral resources. The Gemüsehof sells hard-to-market income at a reduced rate to students.

nXm film production and Sophie Hoffmann for "Zero Waste Cooking". In the film project "Zero Waste Cooking" cook Sophia Hoffmann conjures delicious vegan dishes in front of the camera from food waste. With the film team, she shows creative ways in a video series to cook everything you have bought and left at home.
