Announcement of the Bernd Tönnies Media Prize

The non-profit Tönnies Research is awarding the Bernd Tönnies Media Prize for the fifth time. The prize is awarded for journalistic work in the areas of print, TV, radio and online, which is characterized by careful research, interesting preparation of the topic and a generally understandable communication of even complex issues.

“The contributions are intended to make it clear that the media improve the level of knowledge about animal welfare in livestock husbandry through their reporting, both among animal owners and among the general public. In doing so, the animal welfare-relevant aspects of livestock husbandry should come to the fore, ”says managing director Dr. André multi-cities.

In addition to animal welfare in farm animal husbandry, this year there is an additional, special interest in the effects of farm animal husbandry on the climate. “The climate discussion is indispensable in Germany. We want to encourage journalists to publish factual, easily understandable articles on the effects of livestock farming on climate protection, ”says Vielstädte.

The prize is endowed with 10.000 euros, making it one of the most highly endowed media prizes in Germany. The award ceremony will take place on the occasion of the Tönnies Research Symposium on March 17, 2020. Former award winners include SWR editor Edgar Verheyen, FAZ editor Jan Grossarth and the journalist for the Neue Züricher Zeitung Barbara Klingbacher.

Interested applicants can apply with up to two contributions. The application deadline for this year's award is December 31.12.2019, XNUMX. The jury consists of representatives from various fields and works independently. The judges' decision is final.
