Landkost Egg: False allegations from PETA and ZDF (Frontal21) - alleged "egg fraud" turns out to be a soap bubble

Landkost Ei defends itself against PETA allegations with the following statement:

The allegations of alleged "egg re-labeling or incorrect labeling" by the animal rights organization PETA Germany eV on Wednesday prove to be baseless. The animal rights organization PETA claimed in Berlin on Wednesday that it had uncovered an alleged "egg fraud". Video material showing sleeping laying hens housed to protect them from bird flu is supposed to serve as alleged evidence of incorrect labeling of "organic" and "free-range" eggs at Landkost-Ei GmbH in Bestensee near Berlin.

"The allegations made by PETA are all false and unfounded," said Dr. Heinz Pilz, Managing Director of Landkost-Ei GmbH, of course. Landkost-Ei GmbH produces free-range and free-range eggs in its own operations. Furthermore, caged eggs are produced in separate stables, which are sold in separate distribution channels as caged eggs.

Regulation (EC) No. 557/2007 contains a clear legal regulation for the types of floor and free-range husbandry:

Open-air runs are not provided for laying hens in barn hens. For free-range eggs, the hens must in principle have access to the outdoor exercise area during the day. In order to protect laying hens from epidemics such as avian influenza, however, the Avian Influence Ordinance of October 18, 2007, introduced a general obligation to keep hens in Germany, from which the responsible districts can allow exceptions. The district of Dahme-Spreewald ordered stables for the Bestensee district on October 20, 2008 after a case of bird flu had been detected in Saxony. Our laying hens have been in the stables ever since. Regulation (EC) No. 557/2007 expressly provides in Article 12, in the event of such restrictions imposed to protect health, that eggs may continue to be marketed as free-range eggs for up to 12 weeks after they have been housed, even if the laying hens do not have access to the free range during these restrictions.

"The false allegations that are made here by PETA can only be explained by the fact that the PETA activists have not familiarized themselves with the applicable rules of conduct. Our lawyers are tasked with preparing all legal steps." explains Dr. Pilz the further procedure of the Landkost-Ei GmbH.

"All eggs that leave our company are, without exception, properly and correctly labeled and stamped in accordance with the applicable husbandry and labeling regulations." so Dr. Mushroom. "Anyone who claims otherwise is playing with the legitimate trust of consumers in the controlled alternative forms of husbandry."
