Award for work on keeping farm animals / "Your professional standards go far beyond the normal level"

Christina Hucklenbroich, editor in the nature and science department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, is the first winner of the Bernd Tönnies Prize. The qualified veterinarian received the award for her journalistic work, in particular her work on keeping farm animals. The prize, which is worth 10.000 euros, was presented to her by Clemens Tönnies on the evening before the Tönnies Research Symposium, which was held for the first time.

Matthias Greiner becomes BfR department head and professor at TiHo Hanover

First joint appointment of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment and the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and TiHo Hannover

Risks that can arise from food and consumer goods are diverse and complex. In order to determine a possible risk to consumers, information about the intake levels of pathogens and pollutants is necessary. One focus of the research at the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is therefore the development of methods for collecting data in the context of risk assessment and exposure estimation. The BfR has strengthened this research area through a joint appointment with the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo). Privatdozent Dr. Matthias Greiner will be appointed to the TiHo Hannover as a university professor and will also be in charge of the department for scientific cross-sectional tasks at the BfR. "With Dr. Matthias Greiner has expanded his research competence in an important, consumer-relevant work area, ”says BfR President Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Hensel. The President of TiHo, Dr. Dr. hc Gerhard Greif, made it clear: "The scientific exchange between the BfR and the TiHo Hannover will be strengthened by this appointment."

Change of management at BGN

The trade association for food and hospitality (BGN) based in Mannheim has a new boss as of July 1, 2011. The 54-year-old lawyer Klaus Marsch will then take over the management of the statutory accident insurance institution, which is responsible, among other things, for the food and beverage industry, the hotel and catering trade as well as the butcher, baker and confectionery trade. dr Tim Schäfer is the new Marketing Manager for EBLEX

As of April 1st, EBLEX (ENGLISH BEEF AND LAMB EXPORT) has a new Marketing Manager for the German, Austrian and Swiss markets. In this role, Dr. Tim Schäfer is responsible for the marketing and communication of English lamb and beef. He benefits from his extensive experience as a product manager for the meat sector at the CMA (Central Marketing Society of German Agriculture). Germany, Austria and Switzerland are important European export countries for quality meat from England. In Germany, fresh English lamb is already in third place in the export ranking. "Our goal is to make the special freshness and quality of English lamb and beef known to purchasing decision-makers and chefs and, of course, to increase sales in the DACH region," says Dr. Tim Schaefer.

Manfred Härtl awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class

Mr. Manfred Härtl, former chairman of the VDF, was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Federal President Christian Wulff at the suggestion of the Bavarian Prime Minister. The presentation took place in March 2011 by the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann in Erlangen.
